House Extensions in Ascot, Berkshire and Surrey

If you've outgrown your current layout but love where you live, a house extension is usually the better option over moving. Buckhurst Construction is a Berkshire based, FMB registered building firm delivering single storey, two storey, wraparound, rear and side return extensions for homeowners across Ascot, Sunningdale, Windsor and the surrounding areas.

Extension types we build

  • Single storey extensions add space at ground level, typically to extend a kitchen, create an open-plan living area, or add a garden room. The most straightforward extension type to plan for and usually the quickest to build.

  • Two storey extensions add space on both floors, making them a cost-effective way to gain a bedroom or bathroom upstairs alongside extra living space below, rather than extending twice.

  • Wraparound extensions combine a side return and rear extension into one continuous space, usually the biggest transformation available to a semi-detached or terraced property without a loft conversion.

  • Rear extensions extend directly off the back of the house, the most common way to enlarge a kitchen or create a family living space that opens onto the garden.

  • Side return extensions build into the often-wasted side alley alongside a property, frequently combined with a rear extension to square off an awkward kitchen layout.

We also take on garage and basement conversions where these form part of a wider extension project, rather than as standalone builds. Get in touch to discuss whether your project fits this route.

Our process.

  • Modern kitchen refit with grey cupboards and black bar stools.

    Initial consultation.

We visit your property, discuss what you want from the space, and give you an honest view on what's achievable. We understand that every build is different, so we’ll take the time to dig into what it is you really want for your home.

  • Downstairs reception room renovation with automatic dark wooden doors.

    Design and quote.

We develop a design brief and provide a detailed quote before anything is agreed. We also advise on whether planning permission or permitted development rights apply, and manage the building regulations process alongside a structural engineer where needed.

  • Build.

A dedicated site team manages the build from groundworks through to finishing, with regular updates so you always know where the project stands. We only use the best tradesman, so you can guarantee that your project will be completed to the highest standard.

  • Image of a his and hers sink in a newly renovated bathroom project.

    Handover.

We complete a full walkthrough and snagging check before we sign off to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with the work that has been completed.

Why choose Buckhurst Construction?

We're a Federation of Master Builders (FMB) member, which means our work is independently vetted against FMB standards, not just self-certified.

We manage the whole project ourselves rather than quoting and disappearing, so the team on site is the team you met at quotation stage.

We build extensions across Ascot, Sunningdale, Windsor, Bracknell and the wider Berkshire and Surrey area. If you're outside this list, get in touch — we're often happy to travel for the right project.

FAQs

Do I need planning permission for a house extension?

Many single storey extensions fall under permitted development rights and don't need full planning permission, though this depends on your property, its size, and previous work already carried out. We assess this as part of our initial consultation and handle the application if one's required.

How long does a house extension take to build?

A single storey extension typically takes several months from start on site to completion; a two storey or wraparound extension usually takes longer given the additional structural work. We'll give you a project-specific timeline once we've scoped the design.

How much does a house extension cost?

Cost depends on the extension type, size, specification and site conditions, so we don't quote a figure until we've seen the property and discussed your brief. Get in touch for a tailored quote.

Will I need to move out during the build?

Most extension projects allow you to stay in your home throughout, though this depends on the scope and which parts of the house are affected. We'll talk through what to expect at the planning stage.

Do you handle the structural engineering?

Yes. Where an extension involves structural work such as removing a wall, we coordinate directly with a structural engineer and manage building control sign-off as part of the build.
